Schematic view of the function of SAiNT. The various databases are shown on the left, in the middle our squirrel mascot collectes the data from them and sorts them in a shelf with Creative Commons licenses, so as to process them on the right. The right side shows different possible processes: linking existing data internally and externally; cooperation of companies on the basis of SAiNT data; wide national and international use.

What Is SAiNT?

SAiNT - Saxony-Anhalt intelligent Networking Technology uses developments from digitalisation to make the opportunities arising from these develpopments available to Saxony-Anhalt. It is one way to face the challenges posed by the digital transformation.

SAiNT accumulates all data from Saxony-Anhalt. The data stem from various extant regional touristic databases as well as from administrative and economic databases. They are combined in SAiNT automatically via technical interfaces.

The data consists of static data such as addresses, opening hours, and events, as well as of edited data like texts, photos and videos. In the touristic sector, these data are collected for points of interest (POIs) such as attractions, sights, and museums, but also for restaurants, events or routes.

Open Data and SAiNT

SAiNT is an Open Data project. That means the data displayed here is licensed in such a way that anyone is permitted to use and reuse the material free of charge. This ensures that different applications can be developed on the basis of SAiNT.

In addition, data in the SAiNT database is structured, permitting it to be read and processed with the help of algorithms and automated processes.

Requirements for Data

SAiNT will be further developed. That is true both of the platform as such which will get additional functionality and add more data sources, and of the data itself. We aim to constantly improve data quality. To do this, we follow the recommendations collated by the German National Tourist Board.

Open

All integrated data – whether text, image, video, or audio file – are tagged with a Creative Commons license. This license makes the legal status of the files clear and informs users who can use the files and in what way.

Structured

SAiNT structures all integrated data according to the standards set by schema.org and extendeed domain specifications continuously developed by the Open Data Tourism Alliance. Opening hours, addresses, and description texts within SAiNT are easily identified as such by bots.

Linking

Using the schema.org declaration, data can be linked with each other. In this way, connections between different datasets can be made by using geo-coordinates, e.g. This allows an easy search for sights around a predetermined position, or the display of attractions and restaurants along a certain bike route.

Correctness

SAiNT allows you to maintain your data at one single point – exactly where you have been doing this all along! From your usual database all your data is automatically distributed to SAiNT and from there throughout Germany and the world. By allowing decentralized maintenance combined with centralized accumulation and distribution SAiNT avoids errors within data.

Currency

Thanks to the networking of systems dynamically changing data will be up to date in all systems in spite of the decentralized maintenance. There is a continous loop of requests and updates that ensures that a changed dataset in your regional database will quickly be updated on all output channels.

Completeness

Only fully collected data is useable to our users. Therefore, IMG reservers the right to lock a dataset – it will not be displayed –, if it is lacking in quality. A reasone could be missing opening hours or entrance fees for an attraction. One more reason for you to take care to completely fill in all fields in your regional database. Naturally, we will inform you when we lock one of your datasets, so you can complete it accordingly.

Quality

SAiNT has no way to judge the quality of your texts, images, or videos. But: High quality content is in your own interest – after all, you want to attract new guests and audiences through them!
